I came to know of the story of Ramajit Raghav who became a father at the age of 94—makes him the oldest father. Shakuntala, his wife was well in her fifties, and the newborn, a healthy child was delivered normally. The odds were stashed against the story; that made me curious. Within a week I presented myself to the family who resided in a mud hut without the electricity connection. 

It took me a few days get familiarised with the family; I had meals with them, took them out shopping for veggies and grocery. Finally, we were talking. Ramajit was hurt that his fatherhood was a matter of speculation in the village; the story was too good to be true. He was more than willing to prove his fatherhood. I made a suggestion. He was open to the idea, but was hesitant his wife, who he called ‘Pagli’ , would cooperate—after all her motherhood was never in doubt. 

She resented the idea but finally consented and this picture was made after the sunset inside the thatched hut illuminated by a sole lantern. His burning eyes shimmered on his wrinkled face is a testimony of his undiluted spirit, youth and virility. 

Ramajit called his child “a God’s gift.” He wanted another gift and was working towards it. A year later he died trying, while making love. His heart couldn’t cope with his romantic spirit, too much excitement proved fatal.
