THE YOUTHFUL OLD
The Youthful Old is a series on elderly people who remained eternally young
Life has challenged me in many ways while age has matured me through these turbulences. I’m 44, and nothing much has changed. I'm doing the same things, perhaps, a little better.
The passage of time and what it does to us interests me. Age is just one implication, though is often overemphasized, and portrayed as a retreat, or decline, the beginning of the end, delineated as a limitation, dependency, illness, or a wait unto end of the wait.
The Youthful Old is a series of photo narratives documenting elderly men and women. This is the work of last 20 years. I relived their lives in some measure documenting them, was fulfilling and humbling to say the least. I see the glow of eternal youth in their wrinkled faces. And, I know, thanks to them, age is neither a boundary nor a conclusion.
Life is a bundle of choices till we’re alive, and we make life interesting by making significant choices. The senior citizens portrayed here made significantly different choices, and therefore stand out, and do things that keep them happy, active and playful, love and be loved, learning for a better tomorrow in the evening of their life. Some now dead, all have led extraordinary lives.
